Guatemala Phone Codes
and +502 Country Code

Guatemala uses country calling code +502 and a closed eight-digit national plan. SIT defines only three broad geographic National Destination Codes for fixed service: 2 for the metropolitan zone, 6 for the suburban metropolitan zone and 7 for the interurban zone. These are leading digits of the full number, not separate dialling prefixes added to a local number.

Guatemala has three broad fixed-line NDCs, not city-by-city area codes

Only 2, 6 and 7 are modelled as geographic code pages. Additional digits identify number blocks and subscribers; this site does not invent locality codes from those blocks.

Numbering history

How the Numbering Plan Developed

Guatemala’s National Numbering Plan was formalised through SIT Resolution 516-99 in June 1999 and adapted as the telecommunications market and mobile services expanded. The current SIT plan identifies fixed services with leading digits 2, 6 and 7 and mobile services with leading digits 3, 4 and 5.

Coverage and identity limitation

Guatemala does not publish a separate city area code for every department or municipality. The NDCs 2, 6 and 7 are broad one-digit fixed-line zones within a complete eight-digit number. In particular, 7 covers all interurban departments, so later digits must not be presented as verified department codes without an authoritative allocation record. Metropolitan and suburban coverage can also divide parts of municipalities in Guatemala Department.

Common questions

What is the country calling code for Guatemala?

Guatemala uses country calling code +502.

Do I keep the domestic prefix when using +502?

No separate domestic trunk prefix is used in the format shown for Guatemala.

Can an area code identify a caller’s exact location?

No. It describes a numbering-plan association, while portability, forwarding and internet telephony can separate a number from the caller’s present location.
